Connectional Church

As Presbyterians,  we understand our church to be more than just our local congregation. We are part of the Presbytery of Carlisle as well as part of the Presbyterian Church (USA), which is the largest Presbyterian denomination in the U.S.

At the church level, we are governed by 12 Ruling Elders who lead our Worship, Growth, Service and Stewardship Ministries. This council, called Session, is moderated by the Pastor and guides our congregation in our journey as we are and become a community of faith, hope, love and witness. [Book of Order, G-3.0201] Session members are nominated and elected by the church's members to serve a three-year term.

Our church also has 12 Deacons who minister to the congregation. The Book of Order defines well the role of deacon, stating, "The ministry of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress." [G-2.02] Deacons are nominated and elected by the congregation and serve a three-year term.
