Information from session regarding in-person worship:
Dear members and friends of Middle Spring Presbyterian,
At our session meeting on Monday, December 7 we made the decision to once again temporarily suspend in-person worship on Sunday mornings. We made this decision after thoughtful conversation with a diversity of views expressed. It was not an easy decision to make for we know that being in the sanctuary is meaningful for all of us. We wish to honor the desire to be present in our sanctuary for worship, but at this time, with rising COVID-19 rates and full hospitals, we no longer feel it is a responsible choice to make.
The decision was not unanimous and our conversation was robust, so I appreciate the willingness of all session members to share their wisdom and views! We all wish to honor God with worship AND wish to do so by being partners for public health and safety. Monday night a majority of session members felt that temporarily suspending worship was the way to accomplish that goal right now. Not everyone agreed but we continue to hold one another in high regard. That’s what’s beautiful about our tradition and polity and particular church!
We are using criteria set by https://www.whitehouse.gov/openingamerica/ to watch for the time when we will again take up discussion about resuming in-person worship. This CDC/Whitehouse criteria for reopening includes:
-
A downward trajectory of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) reported within a 14-day period
-
A downward trajectory of covid-like syndromic cases reported within a 14-day period
-
Downward trajectory of documented cases within a 14-day period
-
Downward trajectory of positive tests as a percent of total tests within a 14-day period (with a flat or increasing volume of tests)
None of these benchmarks are met in either Franklin or Cumberland County at this time. We will continue to worship on-line. You can join worship on Facebook live at 10:30AM each Sunday or find the worship service on our website and YouTube Channels, usually by noon on Sunday.
Peace,
Pastor Kim on behalf of the Session of Middle Spring PCUSA
